Bucaspor 1928 was founded in 2011 as İzmir İl Özel İdarespor. Prior to the 2013–14 season it changed its name to Tire 1922 Spor. In 2019, Cihan Aktaş acquired the club's shares and attempted to rename it Buca Futbol Kulübü, but the Turkish Football Association did not approve this change. Instead, the name Ci Group Buca was chosen. In February 2020 the club became 1928 Bucaspor, and finally adopted its current name Bucaspor 1928 in May 2021, also gaining the right to use the logo of Bucaspor.
